I concur with these comments. Page 15: Collection Type Fossils: I would suggest its label be changed to Paleontological. For the Definition I suggest that Definition be modified to read: Biological specimens and evidence of their activity that are preserved through geological processes. Under notes for fossils I suggest removing Tyrannosaurus Rex and replacing it with more generic examples such as vertebrates, invertebrates, plants and trace. Herbarium: under notes I suggest including leaves, wood, seeds, and lichens. I am not sure why Geological and Mineralogical are listed as two separate types of collections as Mineralogical is a subset of Geological. This is indicated in the duplication of terms under Definition in Geological: collections of rocks and gemstones and the same terms used in the Notes for Mineralogical where rocks and gemstones are used as examples. Separating our minerals from geology would be the same as separating out vertebrates, invertebrates, plants or traces from the Fossils, collection type. Page 17: Primary Grouping Principle Type Temporal: Definition: Suggest modifying the definition to indicate the scale can range from geological to historical and may be based on either a relative (such as geological) or an absolute time scale (9th, 10th etc. centuries) Page 18: Specimen Preservation Method Dried: Controlled Vocabulary for Specimen Preservation Method. I suggest a modification to read: Treated or exposed to air at ambient or slightly elevated temperatures to remove all internal fluids; may also use chemicals such as silica gel, salt or borax to remove moisture from specimen. Page 19: Development Status Type Closed: Controlled Vocabulary for Development Status. I suggest modification to read; Currently closed to acquisitions or deposits, nonactive growth at present but has potential for additions in the future. I think this will help distinguish this status from Static which indicates there will never be any additional growth. |
