Currency

You will see on this site quotations in Slovak Crowns (SKK), euro and United States dollars ($US). Payments made via the RegOnline site (Registration, Banquet, Membership) will always be in $US. Payments in Slovakia will normally be made in SKK but some places may accept euro. Bookings made on-line at the Hotel Ibis will be charged in euro. As a general rule you will be required to pay in SKK for small transactions, for local public transport and for taxis.

The only currency used officially in Slovakia is the Slovak Crown. At the time of writing, the exchange rate was 1 euro = 30 SKK. Some hotels and restaurants will accept euros but you should obtain local currency (easily available from bank cash machines in Bratislava). $US are not generally accepted anywhere but can be changed easily in the city. Please note that Vienna (Austria) airport is in the Eurozone.

There is a national tax rate (VAT) of 19%. Prices given here include the tax unless indicated otherwise. There is a local hotel room occupancy tax of 30 SKK (1 euro) per night. This is not included in the prices here.

If you intend to use taxis in Austria or Slovakia please check with the driver which currency is required before the journey starts. Taxis in Slovakia do not accept credit cards - you must pay in cash in Slovak Crowns (SKK).

Registration

The Registration fee has been set at 270 $US for current TDWG Members in good standing (with the usual limit of 3 delegates per Institutional Member) and 340 $US for non-Members. Graduate and post-graduate students able to provide written evidence of their full-time student status may apply for a discounted Registration Fee of 200 $US. There will be a penalty of 50 $US for late registrations after 15 August 2007. All transactions on the RegOnline site will be in $US.

Accommodation (Recommended Hotels)

A limited number of rooms will be available at the Conference Venue at very low cost (current estimate: less than 40 euro including taxes). Priority will be given to full-time graduate or post-graduate students and to delegates from certain developing nations (areas of the world from where we are seeking to attract delegates). Applications for priority room allocation should be addressed to the Conference Secretariat. These reserved rooms will be allocated only to delegates who have provided written evidence of their status, been approved by the Conference Committee, and completed the on-line Registration process.

There is not a discount arrangement with a hotel this year. For proximity to the venue we are recommending an international-chain hotel, the Hotel Ibis, situated within easy travelling distance of the Conference Venue. The expected room rate is 89 euro. Please mention the "TDWG Conference" when you make a booking.

Evening Meals

Good quality restaurants, with a wide price range, are available within walking distance of the recommended hotel (about 30 minutes walk or trolley bus, or a short taxi ride from the Conference Venue). Inexpensive food is available in local supermarkets.
