TDWG 2007 Abstracts

LATEST: The pre-Conference version of the Proceedings of TDWG 2007 has been sent to registered delegates by e-mail.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 23:59 GMT on Wednesday 15 August 2007.

The on-line Journal (Proceedings of TDWG) is now open for submission of abstracts. It is very important that before submitting an abstract you read the following notes carefully.

Previous meetings have been too busy and the Programme Committee is of the opinion that fewer verbal contributions will

  • make the meeting easier to stage,
  • avoid parallel sessions,
  • reduce delegate fatigue and
  • enable us to focus on significant matters of interest.

The schedule for this year's meeting is therefore extremely tight with all four sessions each day rigidly defined.  See the Schedule.

Instructions to Authors

  • All abstracts will be peer reviewed. Acceptance of an abstract for publication does not automatically signify acceptance of a presentation.
  • Detailed Instructions to Authors are available here with a link to start an Abstract submission. It is essential that you read the Instructions carefully before starting a submission.
  • Presentations can be of three types
    • Oral presentation in one of the sessions managed by a Session Chair (see below)
    • Poster. Please ensure that you give approximate dimensions and any special display requirements.
    • Computer demonstrations. Please ensure that you indicate any special facilities you require (projector/beamer, Internet connection, firewall settings, etc.).  If you need to make a presentation to achieve a successful funding application to your home organisation or a grant-awarding body you are encouraged to consider a poster presentation or demonstration of relevant software or Internet site.
  • Session Chairs will invite most of the speakers for their sessions, but if you believe you have something important to contribute to a particular session, please contact the Session Chair as soon as possible using the e-mail addresses shown on the schedule.  Session Chairs will be the primary editors of all abstracts for their sessions.  All abstracts that have not been approved by Session Chairs must be submitted as posters or computer demonstrations.
  • If approval for an oral presentation by a Session Chair is not forthcoming, and you strongly believe that your presentation should be given, please contact either Anna Weitzman (WEITZMAN(at)si.edu) or Lee Belbin (lee(at)tdwg.org) as soon as practicable. Some parallel sessions may be generated if the need is justified.
  • Abstracts and presentations must be kept as simple as possible with no unexplained jargon. Presenters must assume that most of the audience will not have understanding of any technical issues.  E.g., taxonomists must be able to understand computer science presentations and computer scientists must be able to understand taxonomic presentations.
  • The Abstracts for the Proceedings of TDWG are to be processed and released through an implementation of the Open Journal System (OJS). All authors must be registered on the TDWG site before before uploading their abstracts to the Proceedings of TDWG. This costs nothing.
