The TDWG Executive Committee endorsed the Principles of the Conservation Commons in Bratislava in September - see www.conservationcommons.org/section.php. This decision was prompted by the two meetings lead this year by IUCN with the Conservation Commons about the need for the development of standards for species conservation status, area conservation status and conservation status in literature (see www.tdwg.org/about-tdwg/news/article/lee-attends-iucn-oas

It occurred to me that it would be useful to have a listing of known projects that relate to biodiversity data. I spent a few hours creating a spreadsheet of projects that I knew about. I then asked Piers Higgs of Gaia Resources if he would be interested in spending 50 hours to see what he and his staff could find.

The result is www.tdwg.org/activities/bioinformatics-projects/, a database of 455 projects that we had discovered. 295 of these records are complete for all fields. Ricardo Pe


18-May-2007 Information Technologists Needed

We have a number of dedicated and experienced members that are streteched to the limit. These people have paid day jobs, yet are finding time to develop TDWG standards that advance the sharing of biodiversity data. Their work on our standards is greatly valued by us, and we hope by the community that values access to the world's biodiversity data.
