The Project was the result of a Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation grant developed by TDWG and GBIF to address five issues in TDWG to-
- Improve the standards development process (outcome 1)
- Establish an effective collaborative infrastructure (outcome 2)
- Develop a system of quality documentation (outcome 3)
- Implement a system for Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs: outcome 4)
- Establish a long-term funding model (outcome 5)
This page is the repository were we store project deliverables and reports.

TDWG_Existing_Processes.doc (milestone #6)
- Description: Observations of the exisiting
processes in TDWG based upon the TDWG Web site, the TDWG meeting in St
Petersburg in 2005, discussions with a wide range of TDWG members and
with other 'interested parties'.
- Key Aspects: There appears to be a lack of effective governance in TDWG.
- Feedback Sought: Being 'fresh' to TDWG has its advantages, but what have I missed? Would the recommendations address key problems within TDWG?
- Summary of reviews on the Current TDWG Processes document

TDWG_Best_Current_Practice.doc (milestone #10)
- Description: 'Best current practice' in 12 standards development organisations similar to TDWG. Builds upon Report 1 above.
- Key Aspects: TDWG needs a four-level structure, better governance and a more effective overall communication strategy.
- Feedback Sought: Are the observations
accurate? Are there any other organizations that should have been
reviewed? Are their 'best current practices' that have been missed? Do
the observations make sense within the context of TDWG. If not, why
not? If so, how can BCP be effectively implemented in TDWG? What step
does the TDWG Executive need to take?

TDWG_Documentation_Strategy.doc (milestone #13)
- Description: Strategy for documentation of TDWG standards within the new process and environment.
- Key Aspects: Current TDWG practice and best
current practice in other organisations is considered. Fourteen

TDWG Website, gathered from interviews with TDWG subgroup conveners and
members, and from the review of best current practice.
- Key Aspects: Sections R1, R2, and R3
provide high level requirements; Section R4 provides technical
requirements regarding website development and design.
- Feedback Sought: Verify whether
requirements apply, providing specific comments where applicable.
Indicate any missing requirements. Modifications in requirements
prioritization (MoSCoW (wiki))

TDWG_Technology_Evaluation.doc (milestone #11)
- Description: Technical review of software
packages that could be used to implement TDWG Website. It evaluates
three categories of packages (Content Management Systems, Wikis and
Mailing List Managers) against the Website Requirements (document #3).
- Key Aspects: Based on the evaluations, we recommend the use of Typo3 CMS, TWiki, and GNU Mailman and provide justifications.
- Feedback Sought: General comments on the
criteria or any other aspect of the evaluation. Indicate explicitly
whether you approve the recommendations, authorizing the TIP Team to
implement them. If not, please provide justification.

TDWG_Documentation_Priorities_2006.doc (milestone #15)
- Description: Prioritisation of documents to be produced during 2006. Builds on documentation strategy (#3 above).
- Key Aspects: Documents to initialise the
documentation process MUST be produced. The most recent TDWG standards
SHOULD be wrapped in sufficient documenation to be included in the new
standards repository. Supporting user guides and articles COULD be
produced.
- Feedback Sought: Objections to proceeding with these priorities are sort.
- Summary of reviews on the Documentation Priorities document(wiki)
- File Access: These documents can be accessed through the TipDocumentsInitialStandardsPage
- Description: The six documents proposed in the strategy above - now reduced to 5.
- Key Aspects: The documents are presented as XHTML (recommended for standards) in a mockup of the repository.
- Feedback Sought: Objections and expansion on the documents as standards.
