The Nordic LSID e-infrastructure is starting

By: Hannu Saarenmaa

The aim is to generate or retrieve LSIDs for all organisms in the region.  The work will start on from Lepidoptera for which three different taxonomies are currently being used in the region, and thus data integration by just using names is a challenge.  The LSIDs will then be included in observation and specimen databases in the region so that their seamless integration can be streamlined.

The work will be led by Hannu Saarenmaa at the University of Helsinki and carried out in cooperation with a group of the Nordic GBIF nodes and the Zoological Insititute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Sankt Petersburg.

The project is being funded by NordForsk, see,68
