Chairman's Message
Dear TDWG Members and Friends
As the new Chairman, I'm looking forward to helping raise TDWG's profile in the biodiversity informatics community in 2008. The TDWG Infrastructure Project has achieved much, but ends this month. Lee and Ricardo will be staying on one day per week, so hopefully some momentum can be maintained. Roger will be working on a 'Biodiversity Collections Index' that relates directly with NCD.
As many of you would know, I have a new challenge as the Director of the Atlas of Living Australia project in Canberra. The Atlas will be reliant on TDWG standards so I will be juggling responsibilities and fostering appropriate interactions between TDWG and ALA.
TDWG members are spread thinly so the challenge for 2008 will be to consolidate and focus on work that will enable projects such as GBIF, the EoL, ALA and BHL to succeed. Conveners particularly need to anticipate and adapt. TDWG has a good foundation: an effective set of web sites; new processes; a growing suite of excellent resources and an innovative Standards Architecture.
The TDWG Executive Committee and the Infrastructure Project wish you all a wonderful Christmas period. We hope the break will recharge you for an exciting 2008.
Please don’t forget to renew your membership! We need your support. Institutional Membership is now $500 but until March 1, 2008, it is US$400.
Best Wishes
Donald Hobern
Chairman
